Meet our guides....

Martin and Jackie Wrench

Martin and Jackie are from Burnley in Lancashire and serve within their local Methodist Church.  They have been coming on Guild Holidays together since their teenage years and in their 40’s were invited to join the Hosting Panel.  Now in retirement they can occasionally be seen hosting and leading walking breaks, their own Burnley coach holiday group together with associated other coach tours.

The Holiday

Psalm 121 Verse 1 – I look to the mountains; where will my help come from?  My help will come from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

The psalmist is right as often our prayerful concerns in life are helped whilst looking to the hills and mountains and walking by rivers and streams.  All the ingredients are here on a Christian Guild Holiday to find renewal for body, mind and spirit, as we share fun, faith and fellowship.

Discover the delights of Devon with stunning coastal views, unspoilt countryside and historic towns and fishing villages. Our knowledgeable tour manager will provide interesting facts as you sit back and relax en-route to various National Trust properties. We will take a cruise around the beautiful bay, spotting some of the highest cliffs from the Triassic era and the unique sea stacks at Ladram Bay.

Monday: Forde Abbey and Gardens A guided tour.

Forde Abbey in Dorset is a treasure in an area already known for its outstanding beauty. It is a family home as well as a living and breathing working estate, and welcomes visitors all year round.

The house is surrounded by 30 acres of spectacular award-winning gardens. The landscape has developed slowly since monastic times. The monks certainly grew vegetables in large quantities, but whatever dorset gardens they had have disappeared over the centuries.

The only monastic structure that remains today is the Great Pond at the top of the garden. This now brings water into the garden but originally its purpose was to power a mill for grain, which stood on the site of the old sawmills.

Tuesday: Stuart Line Boat cruise.

Exmouth is a Gateway town to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site and marks the start of the unique 95 miles of coastline.

The site was opened by HRH Prince Charles in 2002 and is marked by a Geoneedle at Orcombe Point.

In league with other natural sites such as the Grand Canyon and the Great Barrier Reef, the site exposes over 250 million years of the Earth’s history.

Our Jurassic Coast Cruise takes in the oldest section, known as the Triassic Era, famous for its deep red colour.  Your skipper will give you a live commentary during the cruise covering the changing history and appearance of the area as well as the wildlife and towns.  Tides permitting, the vessel will sail in close to the cliffs for a detailed view and then sail further out to offer a panoramic view.

Wednesday: Free day

Thursday : A La Ronde and Exmouth.

National trust quirky 18th-century, 16 sided house with fascinating interior decoration and collections.

No need to worry about planning the long journey let us do the hard work and climb aboard our executive coach, sit back, relax and enjoy the trip.

Meet new people and make new friends during your stay at Treloyhan Manor Hotel.

Included in your stay are 5 day trips.

Trelissick

Trelissick is a lovely country house and garden set on its own peninsula, with panoramic views over the Fal estuary. You can explore the winding paths through the garden, leading to exotic plants and colourful herbaceous borders.

There is renowned art gallery with a wide range of work from local Cornish artists. Crofters café offers a delicious range of light refreshments using seasonal and local produce

Tregwainton

Here in this luxuriant garden you can follow in the footsteps of the 1920s plant hunters to see plants that flowered in Britain for the first time. This warm and verdant garden has five distinct sections that are crammed with tender exotic species from around the world.

The walled gardens hold award-winning magnolias and rhododendrons. One of the walled gardens has been built to the dimensions of Noah’s Ark and has a productive Kitchen Garden providing for the Tea Room.

Winding wooded paths follow a half-mile incline to sea views across Mount's Bay, and the descent via the drive is bordered by a stream garden and open meadows.

Lanhydrock

Lanhydrock is a grand Victorian country house and estate, with the feel of a wealthy but unpretentious family home.

It illustrates Victorian life in the manner of “Downton Abbey” with kitchens, nurseries and servants' quarters, which offer a thrilling glimpse into life 'below stairs. Contrasting with the luxurious family areas, elegant dining room and spacious bedrooms which reveal the comforts of ‘upstairs’ living.

Well-tended gardens have beautiful herbaceous borders, a fabulous formal parterre and more informal higher gardens filled with camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons.

The Telegraph Museum

Discover the fascinating story of how submarine cables from a Cornish beach changed the world.

Visitors can explore the World’s biggest telegraph station from the turn of the 20th Century. Next to the beach is the Grade II Listed Cable House where the global network of cables came ashore. Plus, the secret World War Two tunnels, built to protect Britain’s vital communications hub from attack.

The Minack Theatre

This unique theatre perched on the cliffs high above the Atlantic Ocean puts on a full programme of drama, musicals and opera every summer, together with music, comedy and story-telling. Explore the theatre and find out how Rowena Cade created the terraced amphitheatre.

Heligan,

A genuine secret garden, it was lost for decades; its history consigned to overgrowth. At the end of the nineteenth century Heligan’s thousand acres were at their height of production and beauty. The outbreak of WW1, signalled the start of the estate’s demise as its workforce went off to fight in the trenches; many sadly never to return.

In 1990 the derelict gardens were discovered by Tim Smit and John Willis (Tremayne descendant). There was a programme of careful unearthing of the structure and each year the garden grows.

Mevagissey

Once the centre of Cornwall’s pilchard fishery and still boasts a working harbour with a few dozen small fishing boats. It has a tradition of boat building dating back to 1745. Fishing trips can be taken from the harbour and there is a ferry to the nearby port of Fowey.

There's an intriguing letterboxing trail to try and delicious home-cooked food in our Coach House Restaurant.  Known as the natural place for good reason, wherever you go at Escot you will see peacocks and guinea fowl roaming free and maybe the odd chicken or few! will cross your path too. The Wye Valley

An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is an internationally important protected landscape straddling the border between England and Wales. It is one of the most dramatic and scenic landscape areas in southern Britain.

Tintern Abbey

The Cistercian abbey of Tintern is one of the greatest monastic ruins of Wales. It was only the second Cistercian foundation in Britain, and the first in Wales, and was founded on 9 May 1131 by Walter de Clare, Lord of Chepstow. It soon prospered, thanks to endowments of land in Gwent and Gloucestershire, and buildings were added and updated in every century until its dissolution in 1536.

Lydney

A small town and civil parish in the county of Gloucestershire. It is located on the west bank of the River Severn, close to the Forest of Dean. The town lies on the A48, next to the Lydney Park gardens with its Roman temple in honor of Nodens.

The Forest of Dean

Meet one of our guides....

Jenny Almond

I have always been interested in craft work most of my adult life. However, Patchwork and Quilting is my passion!

I have taught Patchwork and Quilting classes for the last eighteen years in Adult Education and many private guilds throughout the UK.  My aim is to reach out to Beginners and experienced Quilters alike and share with them my love and enthusiasm of such an interesting hobby.  I would encourage beginners in all the basic patchwork skills and all the safety aspects of their tools and equipment, enabling them to begin projects with confidence.

The more experienced students would be encouraged to further their horizons with more challenging projects.

I am always happy for any Quilters to just come and enjoy a relaxing week finishing off their own projects.

The Holiday:

Our patchwork & Quilting Holidays will appeal to both the seasoned and novice quilter.  From our Concert Hall, with views over Morecambe Bay, you can enjoy the comforts of this beautiful house while you receive expert tuition and guidance.

Join our expert tutor Jenny Almond, with a choice of projects for you to work on.  The structure of quilting workshops will be flexible, allowing you to work at your own pace and to achieve your own goals for the holiday.

Course tuition will run every day, unless otherwise stated from 9:30 to 12:30 each day, with scheduled lunch and morning coffee breaks. The afternoons are free for you to explore the local area or take the time to develop your own project.

What shall I bring? You will be required to bring your own general sewing kit (scissors, needles, pins, safety pins, cottons and rotary cutter) & sewing machine We are always on hand to offer advice if you are unsure and recommend that beginners students telephone prior.

Hereford

A beautiful and historic city, here lives the Mappa Mundi, the oldest map of the world, which lies in the safety of the glorious Hereford Cathedral that is in the heart of this very rural city. Nestled well into the Herefordshire countryside where often one sees tractors driving along the city streets, this is definitely a city for the country dweller.

This beautiful city has much to offer in ways of interest. The beautiful cathedral set in the ancient cathedral precincts. The Waterways Museum, near to the docks, which has recently undergone a huge transformation.
