East Devon is a beautiful area to explore by foot. The terrain varies from delightful meadow land/river valleys, and sandy bays/pebble beaches, to cliffs and hills of up to 200 metres giving spectacular views.

The walks are graded ‘moderate’ because you need a reasonable level of fitness.

Most walks are 6-8 miles, but they are generously timed for your enjoyment.

Itinerary

We walk up the west side of Sidmouth via Bulverton Hill and then across Muttersmoor to enjoy splendid views over the Otter valley. We Join the coast path at Peak Hill and walk to Ladram Bay. Then we go inland through fields, country lanes and eventually follow the River Otter to Otterton.

From the centre of Lyme Regis we follow the picturesque inland route along the River Lim to Uplyme and Ware. Then we follow a high circular route back to the coast, make our way down through the nature reserve at Ware Cliffs and drop down to the Cobb and harbour.

We walk up Salcombe Hill on the east side of Sidmouth to enjoy all round spectacular views to the west and east. We then make our way inland to the Donkey Sanctuary. We rejoin the coast path at Dunscombe Cliffs and make our way back to Sidmouth by way of the picturesque village of Salcombe Regis.

We walk from Charmouth eastwards to the peak of Golden Cap which at 191 metres is the highest point on the South Coast and provides a splendid viewpoint for miles around. On the way out we follow an inland route via Stonebarrow and Chardown Hill. On our return we follow the coast path westwards.

Each walk is about 7 miles and involves ups and downs.
