A watercolour painting activity holiday gives you the opportunity to improve your skills in relaxed company and in our comfortable Country House surroundings.

Places are limited on this break to allow our tutor to give you personalised suggestions based upon your level of experience. Please note: there may be some outdoor sessions, so please pack suitable clothing.

Meet one of our guides....

Anne Barnham

Anne was born in Carlisle and since then has moved around the country and abroad. She has a deep love of outdoor life so finally settled in Lincolnshire where “the great skies and distances are made for fresh and clear watercolour”.

Anne started painting about 4 years ago; landscapes with water appeal mostly but likes to have a building or structure of some kind to offset the gentleness of nature. Anne is an experienced teacher as she regularly teaches on cruise liners and will be guiding and assisting you in creating your own masterpiece.

The Holiday

Anne Barnham comes from Lincolnshire where she demonstrates and teaches local art groups, in her studio and out at sea with P&O cruises! Anne writes:

“This week will be an enjoyable time for new and established painters alike. My aim is to help everyone to get the best out of painting outdoors, a new idea for some, and to show some ‘building block’ techniques that will help develop your own style. John and I will have been down to do a ‘recce’ to choose some great places to paint.

On Sunday we will meet at 4pm to have tea and cake, and get to know one another. After dinner we will get together in our painting room and talk about what will happen in the week ahead, what each of you wants to gain from the week and any other points. I shall do a short demonstration and answer any queries about the week ahead.

The days will begin after breakfast with approximately an hour in our painting room in the hotel to discuss any main points from the day’s venue. We will then go to our chosen place in as few cars as we can and paint for most of the day. All the places that John and I have chosen will have parking, good views to paint, refreshments and toilets!

If the weather is not good, we are able to paint in the hotel all day: I shall bring lots of reference photos that we can work from. The hotel is providing a large room for our use with tables and chairs and also tea/coffee and biscuits, morning and afternoon, should we be indoors.

In the evenings there is some entertainment in the hotel which we are welcome to enjoy, or you would be free to do your own thing. If anyone would like to have a break and explore during the day on their own, that is fine: I want the week to be fun and relaxed.

I will be painting in watercolour but please bring your usual painting equipment in whichever medium you use. After all, the principles are all the same! Don’t forget things like hats, camera, stool/chair, sun cream etc.

I will be bringing various items for sale, paper, paints, brushes and all sorts of other bits and pieces in case you need any ‘top-ups’!

Please get in touch if you want to clarify anything, 01526 320626 or e-mail: annebarnham@hotmail.co.uk

The staff at Lindors look forward to welcoming Anne, John and all those who want to enjoy a holiday whilst improving their painting skills!

Please call Lindors Country House Hotel on 01594 530283 for more information

This is an amazing opportunity to spend four sensitively guided days walking 8 to 10 miles a day through some of the Peak District’s finest scenery, with space to meditate on what it means to be a pilgrim. The Pilgrimage takes in 11 churches along the way from Ilam to Eyam.

Eyam

Eyam has a sense of being a holy place because of the sacrifice of its people in 1655. A consignment of cloth from London for the village tailor brought the plague to this little Derbyshire village, with the threat of then spreading throughout the whole of the North of England. The people of Eyam refused to flee with only their Christian faith motivating them. Their commitment saved the surrounding area but cost about a third of the villagers their lives.

The Holiday
Join us on the now famous “Peak Pilgrimage Way” a spiritual walk, over several days, through the national park, visiting over a dozen churches with time to reflect in each. This new pilgrimage trail is set to mark the 350th anniversary of the plague linking two of the villages afflicted.

The perfect starting point is ancient Ilam, itself a place of pilgrimage for over a thousand years, since the days of St. Bertram, a Saxon Saint and hermit who lived there. Travelling through the villages of the Peak District National Park, including Monyash, Grindleford, Stoney Middleton before ending in Eyam with its story of sacrificial love for others.

The Peak Pilgrimage Guide Book is a travelling companion for your journey, leading your way both physically and spiritually.  This pocket-sized book contains maps and directions to keep you on the right path and invites you into 14 churches along the way. In each church, there is a Bible verse sticker to collect and a passport-style stamp that you can use on a special page of your Guide Book. Every pilgrim who arrives in Eyam with a Guide Book full of stamps and verses will receive a pilgrimage memento!

“Walking Grade” All of the walks follow a footpath with a few slight inclines.

"What shall I bring?" we recommend you come prepared for all weathers, regardless of the month you visit. Comfortable walking boots are recommended, as is clothing for wet weather.  (Don’t worry we have a boot room where you can dry your walking gear). A Camera is a must to capture the magnificent views but please leave all of the other details to us.

You should also have with you the Ordnance Survey 1-25,000 map “OL24 The Peak District - White Peak area”. This single map covers the whole of the route.

The walks for these holidays will be selected from the following:

3 Transport to Budleigh Salterton.  Circular walk from seafront inland through Knowle to the old railway line and then a gradual ascent to the cliff tops overlooking Exmouth, then back to Budleigh. 5 miles easy.

4 Transport to Branscombe village. The walk climbs up through Hazelwood [400 feet], past Beer caves to the village of Beer. Return along spectacular coast path via Beer Head [steady 400 feet climb] and Branscombe Mouth. 6.5 miles moderate.

5 Circular walk from hotel begins with a steady climb up Bulverton Hill to Salters Cross [600 feet] . Follow the ridge path across Mutters Moor to the coast at Peak Hill. Then back to Sidmouth.  4.5 miles easy after the initial climb.

6 Transport to Otterton.  Walk along the River Otter to meet the sea and then follow the coast path eastwards via Ladram Bay and High Peak back to Sidmouth.  8 miles moderate.

In addition to these organised walks advice on self-guided alternatives will be available for individuals wishing to walk further on their own, and shorter walks for those who want something gentler. These may involve use of own or public transport. The final choice of led walks for each holiday will depend on the mix of walkers.

What shall I bring?" we recommend you come prepared for all weathers, regardless of the month you visit. Comfortable walking boots are recommended, as is clothing for wet weather.  (Don’t worry we have a boot room where you can dry your walking gear).
