Meet one of our guides....

Alison Drake

Alison is a self- taught artist and has 30 years’ experience in Watercolour painting and has been successfully teaching watercolours for four years. Alison believes that anyone can paint given some core techniques. She encourages a sociable, relaxed atmosphere where skills can develop and inspiration can grow. She sees her role as helping people to develop the ideas that interest them-projecting their own unique vision on paper while she offers practical solution to help that vision take shape more clearly. Most aspects of this fascinating medium will be covered by means of demonstrations, painting along with Alison in the studio, and plenty of on to one help and guidance. Why not give it a try!

The Holiday

So much more than just learning how to paint….Feed your creative side, with this Watercolour Painting Holiday at Abbot Hall Hotel, with your expert leader Alison Drake.

Alison, returns to Abbot Hall Hotel to share her talents and help you develop your techniques, whether an accomplished artist or a beginner.

We will be painting in house in our own designated room so you can set up your own art materials for the duration of the course. We aim to paint one painting per day and the tuition will start on Monday morning after a hearty breakfast. We have morning coffee and break for lunch. Then back in the studio for the afternoon session. Your evenings are free for you enjoy the beautiful surroundings and relax.

'what shall I bring'? On booking students will receive pre-course information and materials lists detailing a list of paints, brushes and paper, items to consider. Unless stated students should bring their own painting materials, brushes and papers/boards. We are always on hand to offer advice if unsure and recommend that beginner students telephone prior to buying an extensive set of paints and equipment!
